room mate troubles

1 2021-10-23 10:07

got 3 new room mates, had the flat for myself for a long time, but i didnt change anything, i'm the longest living member here, and it has always been a slight mess so i didnt change that.
now i got 3 new super tidy zoomer room mates who think its all my fault.
they dont invite me to their activities, thew out my favorite pan and use their own toilet paper, generally there is no connection or sense of sharing, plus the bad feeling that comes with being excluded / looked down on without really knowing why.
how to cope with this?
i can't be confrontational, though i'm okay with being disliked, but i want to know why and it's just weird.

>>1 Why did you allow them to move in? Might be a good idea to take a lesson from that for future evaluation of people. I know it's hard to get a realistic picture in the usual pre-contract chit chat but it really helps to be hypercritical at that point. Feels wrong but is the right thing to do.

Oh yeah and fuck those morons. Like seriously. I have a couple of them around here too and they are without joking boring to the point of being painful. I always want to tell them to go get fucked up, destroy something, piss on the lawn, whatever... as long as you quit being such pathetic conformist idiot. I swallow it though. There is no hope they'd even understand what i am talking about.

As for being blamed for making a mess? That's extremely easy: Just laugh about or outright deny it. In their world people have to feel ashamed for being messy. Confronted with someone who doesn't they have no clue what to do. Don't
fool yourself into thinking that being diplomatic would gain their respect. Not going to work.

thanks for the kind words
i didnt bother to pick them myself because it worked out fine before, the landlord basically rents out every room separately, yet we have shared kitchen and bathroom etc

What? You want the OP to go to war when the OP is outnumbered three to one? The OP would be annihilated. The OP could end up getting hurt, accused of heinous crimes, given a lengthy prison sentence, or be placed in a straitjacket at a mental asylum.

You should say it to their face. If they still talk to you they'll thank you in ten years.

If OP isn't uselessness he could take them all. His post wasn't about violence though, it was about the fear of communicating that's instilled in young people.

There is a bit of a difference between laughing off silly accusations/demands and "going to war". Besides i agree with >>8, people that get disturbed because "OMG!!! There. Is. Some. Dust. On. The. Cupboard." make lousy "soldiers". Not to mention, if anyone "started war" it was them. You NEVER throw away stuff that doesn't belong to you. How much you think it's useless garbage doesn't matter at all. If there is anyone around, who even might see some usefulness in what you are looking at, you fucking ask. It's called respecting your fellow humans and not feeling to adhere to this says a lot about a person.

P.S.: >>1 if there is anything else that might be considered "garbage" i'd highly recommend drawing a clear line on this asap. These incidents are rarely one time only.

The OP has to respect the new state of direct democracy in the OP's flat. If the OP is outnumbered three to one, the majority will always get to make their rules against the OP's wishes. If the OP does not like this state of affairs, the OP could vote with the OP's own feet by "emigrating" (i.e. moving out).

Obviously. Unless they get the landlord involved they lack any actual power of forcing their rules onto OP though. They might have played the social card by threatening to exclude OP but they already did that so they lost any kind of bargaining material. Majorities work in theory. Practically it usually depends on other factors.

In that case, the OP should fear for the OP's safety because they will soon be considering alternative measures that could result in the OP "getting hurt, accused of heinous crimes, given a lengthy prison sentence, or be placed in a straitjacket at a mental asylum".

The heinous crime of not flushing the toilet?

The room mates will use that as a pretext for evicting the OP. "Bad hygiene and bad sanitation".

Maybe. Highly dependent on OPs relationship with the landlord though. Given he seems to have been there for a while the landlord might be able to call bullshit on such accusations. If he cares is another question obviously. It's 3x rent vs. 1x rent after all. There is one thing in OPs favor though: People making requests are NEVER very popular with landlords. Landlords want to be left alone and collect rent. Violating that principle means auto-shitlist.
