Do you use plain text accounting to keep track of your finances?
Or do you prefer to use GUIs such as GnuCash, QuickBooks, Quicken, etc.?
Or do you use an ERP such as LedgerSMB, Dolibarr, Apache OFBiz, Oracle NetSuite, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.?
keeping track of finances is what the jews want you to do
if you are having enough money switching and movement to where it warrants an extensive suite of tracking tools perhaps it's better considered to stop having such things in the first place

Why would anyone need an ERP system for personal finance?
GnuCash uses Guile Scheme as its extension language. Reports are defined using Scheme.

For personal finances, stick with plain text accounting tools such as ledger-cli and hledger.
Version control is so much easier with plain text.

Opinions on ledger and hledger, anons?

I use Ledger for my personal finances. I like that it is plain text that can be version-controlled using Git.
hledger has mostly the same syntax and command line interface as Ledger. I have read its documentation but never used it. It has a web interface and a curses interface, which could come in handy for letting someone else input transactions if they do not like to use a command line interface.
What are your needs? What do you currently use?
I think GnuCash is good for most people.

«version-controlled using git» for what? how useful would this be?
what do you do with it, could you give us an example?

It's useful for tracking history, reverting mistakes, and making backups (git push
).

Personal finance. Track income, expenses, and bank account balances across multiple banks in multiple currencies. The information is useful for budgeting, and for monthly bank statement reconciliation (which allows the detection of suspicious/incorrect transfers of money).
