personally i don't think that unix is the enemy, e.g. outside of autistic projects i use plan9port full time. i do think though that the projects that involve somehow hosting lisp on top of C machine and pretending like it's the real thing are misguided. not because of some purity concerns, but simply because of the mismatch and leaky abstractions. lisp microcode used to to support all kinds of lisp specific functionality: calling conventions, data types (all kinds of ways in which that affects GC for example), etc.

to paraphrase the bible, render onto unix the things that are of unix, and render onto lisp the things that are of lisp.
