Is human life fundamentally a) good, b) misunderstood, or c) imperfect?

1 2023-01-19 16:33

I can't decide. I don't seem to be very decisive. Perhaps it's nothing at all.

2 2023-01-19 20:13

The Bible has the answers to all your questions, and more.

3 2023-01-19 23:31

"Human" is way too general. Humans have a huge degree of diversity.

Sorry, I'm not into Marvel.

The people who sell you Marvel are the same ones telling you the Bible is made up.

The Bible is Marvel plus two millenia. It's a collection of dissimilar and schizophrenic books that nerds have attempted to make coherent and meaningful over the last two thousand years, despite the fact that it is and remains preposterously incoherent.

Epistemologically, there are no actual reasons to believe in its validity outside of it own schizophrenic claims, which you fundamentally have to accept a priori for it to merit any validity whatsoever. It's the incarnation of the sunk cost fallacy--you've already sacrificed your reason, why not sacrifice more of it in order to sustain the charade?

The real question is whether the Bible, theology, and Christianity are incidentally true for reasons that aren't rooted in mundane knowledge, then it really isn't a matter of reason, but that of a working hypothesis to get results. Drinking willow bark tea to cure headaches is equally preposterous on the face of it, but it still has the same effects whether you "believe" in tree spirits or salicylic acid.

This is still a materialist interpretation of religion. If it's the ritual and ethic itself that matters, then it equally doesn't matter what religion it is, so long as you can force people to fake belief until they make it. You might as well force people to become communists or Marvelists.

Christianity has continuity of belief and cultural touchstones in Europe stemming back more than a thousand years, for one. That grasp is failing, true, but as far as instrumental and "materialist" belief systems, trying to bootstrap something else when there's a perfectly functional system in front of you, that also all of the governance and juridical structures ultimately reduce to is probably a better choice than gulags or capeshit.

Proverbs 1:26-28
King James Version
26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

You should use Galatians 6:7 rather than Proverbs if you want to implicitly threaten others with scripture:

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Galatians 6:7, KJVA)

In either case, I don't reject or mock Wisdom or God. I reject the exegetical claims Man makes about a dead book against the being of a living God.

“Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.” (Psalms 51:6, KJVA)

“For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.” (Psalms 51:16-17, KJVA)

Hebrews 4:12

12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

NKJV

Deifying a book is idolatry.

OP here. I'm a broken miserable sinner and I'm sorry to have put this into the world. Forgive me fatger, I knew not what I did.

Have you tried the book '11 Rules for Life' by Jordan Peterson?

19 2023-01-30 18:29

I could have sworn it was 12. It has some serious issues but the main idea (If work towards improving yourself and making things better rather than throw your life away you'll probably have a better life) is still a good one.

You have to be able to separate this from his political ideas (everything's bad because young men won't pull themselves up by their bootstraps) which are just more boomer/neocon crap.

"pull yourself by your bootstraps"
is just a left wing meme.
just like how "trickle down economics"
was also always a left wing heckle.

The right wing suggests that common man should aim to acquire responsibility.
In the stoic sense, the more hardships you overcome the better the man you become.

The reality of Human Life is that Suffering is non-optional. You can choose to suffer on your own terms (the devine path) or you will have suffering given to you (the satanic path).

21 2023-02-06 08:13 *

The common man is a lot more responsible than the rich. The richer you get, the less responsibilities you have to take. Your actions no longer have real consequences as you can just pay your way out of it for what amounts to pennies compared to your wealth. And if shit really hits the fan, you can just blackmail the state into bailing you out.

22 2023-02-06 11:59

>>20
Yes. The problem is that Peterson (and similar faux right wing celebrities) shuts down legitimate criticism of the current configuration of Western countries (such as how mass immigration is undermining the middle and lower class) by appealing to this idea and telling them they just need to work harder. At some point you hit the frontier of what's possible and you need to rethink things.

23 2023-02-06 12:01

>>21
Yeah that's mostly crap, at least in the US unless you're only looking at the absolute top 0.1% or so. Most wealthy people don't inherit their wealth and you don't get rich by being an irresponsible loser.

Human failed, most of them accepted genetically modified products, so, they don't worth their gods.
Whatever godly end of mankind should happen, I hope it will come soon, no creator of mankind god could watch himself with pride if he tolerates that human are playing with genes.

So
Therefore: Humanity.
