If the universe is a simulation, then all the atoms and photons in the universe would have to be simulated for it to be accurate right? Wouldn't it then be impossible to accurately simulate the Universe if we're using photons to transmit data?
I don't think it's possible to perfectly replicate the universe that we have observed. I do think it's possible to simulate a universe that works on the same laws of physics as we observe today. The reason for this is because we know that quantum observers actively influence the outcome of the collapse of a quantum superposition state. I don't think it's possible to "perfectly" recreate the conditions of every quantum observer that would lead to the very specific universe that we observe today.

Actually according to the quantum theory of relativity if you divide earths density and multiply it by pi you get the "perfect" universe.
The universe need only be represented functionally in terms of what the observer can receive and interpret. The 128 mp3 version of the universe can be virtualized within this one all day, and probably be compressed down into a grain encased by pearl, with love.

We can simulate a brain that interprets an entire universe. Can we simulate all the universes interpreted by all the brains ever that were or are to be? Is that not enough of the universe to have simulated? We can sort of extrapolate everything else of interest.
