Ratio of sol to prog threads is increasing

1 2022-05-10 08:29

The ratio has increased from nearly 1:1 to nearly 1.5:1 now. Is this a bad sign? The noise to signal ratio is increasing. How will SchemeBBS deal with all the /sol/ junk?

Convince /sol/ to program more?

3 2022-05-10 11:24

I forgot how to program.

4 2022-05-10 12:06

I remember how to program, mostly. I just don't have any problems to solve via computers. I'd make games, but I wouldn't be able to play them as intended, so what's the point?

I'd make a blobber library in the vein of libtcod if I wasn't so selfish.

We have recorded your confession. The inquisition will soon visit you. You will be locked up in the tower with the princess until you have memorized every word of R7RS-small.

6 2022-05-10 13:51

Is that punishment or a reward?

7 2022-05-10 13:59

If you're super Mario brothers anything can happen.

You will be tormented by Princess Java until you give in to the dark side. You will be trapped in the tower, unable to free yourself through Scheme enlightenment.

I am a programmer developing interactive technologies that could possibly be applied to computer games. At the moment, the theme I'm focused around is "emergent behaviour of autonomous agents that are programmed with simple rules". In the past, I've used the themes of "populating worlds with the help of procedural techniques", "data structures and algorithms for the storage and representation of objects on a planet", "simulating planetary forces to generate planets", "economic simulation with autonomous agents.

I do this as a hobby as a way to apply my studies in computer science. I believe in free software and I have refused to sell my time by writing proprietary software.

You should make a dope wars clone using your leet skills.

But have it be a crypto instead of droogs.

Should non-/prog/ /sol/ migrate?

I once wrote an interpreter in Java that could run all the examples in The Little Schemer.

I'm sure I could do that, but I don't really have the motivation to go in that direction; I am currently not motivated to write, mature, and publish a video game for a general audience. The point of my post is that there's a whole world of programming ideas, I like to call my work "coding adventures". The purpose is to engage my skills as a programmer and computer scientist.

If I ever decide that I want to move my direction into writing games, then I already have a portfolio of experience that I can draw inspiration and apply myself instantly.

Do you think making this thread here in /sol/ helped the ratio?

No, we have our own containment board right here.

/sol/ should migrate to https://bbs.jp.net/mona

Do you think making this thread here in /sol/ helped the ratio?

Where else should threads be made? In /sandbox/? What a great idea. Why do we even need /prog/ and /sol/ when we already have /sandbox/?
