The bug is in Unicode.

Perhaps Unicode is a bug, and Latin-1 should be used instead.

perhaps ''byte'' encoding is a bug and q locations plus formal dictionary hardware should be used instead

The bug is in Unicode.

Could you explain in more detail? How do I reproduce the bug?

You can take a look at the S-expression API. It is not empty.

Okay, I understand now. \342\200\213 is zero-width space (Unicode U+200B).

Then it's only a bug in some clients?

There is only a tiny space between genius and madness they say and i have to agree.

I forget that some people think Unicode is tolerable. My joke might be interpreted a layer of sarcasm lower than intended.

It appears to be a bug that affects all clients. You can reproduce the bug through the web interface by copying a zero-width space into a textarea. Try it in /sandbox/.

In Vim you can produce a zero-width space in insert mode using Ctrl-v u200b. In Emacs, use M-x insert-char, followed by 200b.

I think this is a GTK thing: in many applications you can press shift+control+u and then type in the code (shift-control-u 200b space) and it will insert it too.

I'm pretty sure the site maintainer died in 2020
