Saw The Green Knight the other day and ever since I've been unaccountably addicted to this sub-two-minute song:

that's really beautiful. man it's amazing what a little money can do.
Anyone got any favorite downtempo, ambient, atmospheric or similarly adjectived albums? I've liked to listen to this sort of thing since I was a kid, but only on occasion so I never really went looking for artists.
technical itch's ambient stuff is startlingly icy, but very beautiful for what it is and quite a departure from his ordinary fare. He is an expert producer. have you listened to the orb? brian eno? fsol's monstrous psychedelic bubble series? Old, but good. ambient four on land was an excellent album from brian eno, and i've listened to music for airports in an airport, and by God it worked.
i'm interested in good ambient too, but I don't know very much about it or how to approach it. I've written some, but there's so much to it beyond reverb and delay on strange sounds if you want to express something of wonder.
If you find out something good, anon, please clue me in.
How do you guys accumulate music? I'd like to avoid breaking the law and I'm thinking about getting a CD player and just buying CDs. I mostly listen to older classical/folk music at work on spotify so it's almost all in the public domain but I don't want to dig through archive.org (half the stuff on there isn't legal anyway.)
there are lots of public domain grateful dead recordings, some of good quality, on archive.org
i'm sure there must be some other fantastic jam band recordings available for free with a little snooping around.
there are always lots of good free dj mixes on various edm forums where an artist will showcase their music or share what they are passionate about for free.
a lot of libraries have cd's for borrowing (this is where i first heard aphex twin's cheetah album) and there is freegal music that can be accessed to download to own a certain amount of mp3's a month, and I am pretty sure listen to via streaming through their curated list.
"
Freegal® is a free music service from your library. All you need is your library card number and possibly a PIN if your library utilizes them. Freegal offers access to about 15 million songs, including Sony Music’s catalog of legendary artists, and over 40,000 music videos. In total the collection is comprised of music from over 40,000 labels with music that originates in over 100 countries. There is no software to download, and there are no digital rights management (DRM) restrictions. Access to Freegal is limited to patrons of subscribing libraries."
There are several ad supported music streaming services, and they are trivially inexpensive.
of course there are music podcasts (i suggested nosia radio) that will explore different vistas of sound, some may be of your liking.
there's also stuff like hearts of space and I think various streaming radio stations, like legowelt and others.

I really like Brian Eno thanks for the suggestion. Truthfully I was less fond of the others linked however. I'm currently listening to New Space Music while I do some reading.
Dark ambient is kind of creepy, huh? There might a lot of promising material to be found poking around over at hearts of space. they might list artists or something.

Honestly my tastes in music are not really conscious enough to even recall what I didn't like about these other artists, I do think the mood was part of it though. I will give Hearts of Space a look. Also I just recalled the very popular ``Godspeed You! Black Emperor'' which is in this vein also.
if you find anything good, please do share.

Weird song, but who doesn't like Sinatra?

I would call it whimsical.
I just don't have much an ear for it sometimes, I've missed the spirit of the times. The recording is beautiful to my untrained ear, and there's some bounce, but I don't know if it reaches me, as if anything could reach me at this point.
I'm not good at this adult shit

I typically listen to this classical radio station: https://nhpr.streamguys1.com/classical I do this for most of the day. I don't like to have a choice over what I listen to as changing a song or what not can be distracting. My favorite band is The Taxpayers though, which is very different. I listen to this band and some similar bands in dedicated listening sessions every once in awhile and give it the whole of my attention, listening to at least a full albumn at a time.
What's the best taxpayers album to get started with?

I think my favorite album is ``God, Forgive These Bastards'', and I don't think it's a bad place to start. It's about the tragic life of a former baseball player.
I don't usually like electronic stuff, but I found this track and it makes me very happy: https://youtu.be/watch?v=1Ts0kyyCqMc
jeez wow great find, that's cooler than a polar bear's toenails or whatever. That is super awesome.

I'm with the DJ, okay?
Mort Garson is also pretty good, and I'm thinking there are probably lots of gems in video game scores. Maybe I just never really gave electronic music a proper shot.

That's it, I'm buying a Behringer too.
i've sort of been interested in one of the neutron semi modulars. has a lot of power for what you pay, and there's a lot that can be done with it. i'm not sucking dick for new hardware yet, but if it comes to and i'm any good I'll buy you one too.
there's been a lot of ground covered in the last fifty years.
