Do you think, thinking evolved as a process in order to solve problems in order to survive?
we were created by God to have thoughts, in his own likeness.
our sensory array is a hideous trap.
trepenate me.
No. Evolution has no agency, things don't evolve with a goal in mind. They simply evolve. If a feature is disadvantageous, the individual bearing it will have less chance to reproduce and pass it on. If it is advantageous, the individual bearing it will have more change to reproduce and pass it on. Therefore the question properly asked would be: "Do you think thinking evolved because it helps solve problems, in order to survive?"

are both true

Without contradicting, feel like noting:
A will to survive, including a fear of death, has evolved because it makes survival more likely.
Evolution has no agency - animals, including humans do. They fear harm to their body that causes pain and death. They seek good emotions like from sex etc.
Schopenhauer's "People can do what they want, but they cannot want what they want." comes to mind...
What I wonder is: How much imperfection is left in these almost perfect survival machines after billions of years of evolution?
Also:
Can we seriously believe that evolution has stopped now?
Shouldn't we work together for our common free lives instead of fighting and endangering each other?
IF we do believe that the sole evolutionary purpose or advantage of thought is to solve problems for survival, than increasing those problem solving capabilities seems essential...
That may be the true meaning and scope of computer technology...
However we should not allow our brains to depend on computers for everything and weaken. Training the brain, with e.g. math exercises, is also important...
But not all thought is productive like that, is it? Not all thought is math. That's one of the logical steps, where I have doubt. That's why I'm asking...

It's fun how somebody else could just continue my thread and pretend he's me. Not in this case, but in principle you never know. I'm fine with that.

I'd rather be called stupid than be killed. So it's easy to love my enemies in online discussions.
