Is anyone here into it? I bought my first synth (a groovebox actually), I didn't want to spend too much and I wanted to have fun right away, so after some research I went with a Novation Circuit.
What hardware/software do you use and what kind of music do you make?
I tried making breakcore with LMMS, but quickly gave up after I realized that rearranging the amen break is not enough to make a good track.

electronic music sucks it's all done on a computer and there is no musicianship involved. why don't you just learn to play an instrument, bitch.

I dabble with some stuff every now and then in Bitwig, though my current output is decent at best, so I think I just need to bunker for a year or two and iterate until I'll be able to make something I'm proud of.

Don't worry about being bunkered for another year or two.
it's better than most of the similarly generated total garbage you'll hear on the radio. i think this is a fine thing, really, and another futuristic tool for the betterment of the human experience.
I used to write with a DAW. I would love to have a little volcabass, but I hear the behringer 303 is a better buy.
volca bass
speaking of cute lil hardware, i would love to get my hands on something like an op-1 or his foss counterpart otto
they are cute, but it's kind of a weird little thing to express the secrets of your soul with. What's the big deal with wanting hardware anyway?
What's the quietest instrument hand-made with paper or (plastic) waste? I want to play it in my bath.
i guess one of those wax paper+comb kazoos? Sing to me the song of your people.
This wasn't bad by any measure. It's not pumpin' house music all night long, but it's cool in a dreamy indy outer space sort of way. b+
sez who? Have you seen bong ra's fucking mansion?

Well, after 2 years of COVID work, I want to enjoy my hobby away from the computer. Having a physical thing helps tremendously.
Have you read any of the shadow wolf e-zines? They talk a lot about hardware. I sort of want to spring for an 808 clone and a 303 clone, but times is tough!
>>32
Holy shit, how have I managed to never hear about this?
It looks soo cooool
>>28
Thanks. Seems too loud
>>22
This is pretty neat. I wonder if something similar would be possible for dub.
Find a nice beat; repeat it as the basis of your e-music.
2>> there's no accouting for taste. Have you checked out the amen packs available at dogsonacid.com? Free and tasty, some people are stupid with their eq. I like the TC amen a whole lot.
24>> volcabass is three osc, but after a friend recommended the behringer, I jumped in. No regrets, it will be a joy in my life for many years to come.
I did actually get around to getting an rd-8 and a 303 clone. Time to revive a dead genre.

Acid music is immortal.
Hardcore will never die.
House music is world renowned it's the universal sound it will always be around.
computers are accessible to anyone now. electronic music is the music of the people, particularly poorly produced punk junk.
>>45
Ad platforms are accessible, but real computers are not.
Sure people are churning out garbage with garage band but good FM music is still pretty niche.

Wow, that's an amazing rabbithole. I'm thinking myself that the future of music is a generative experience, with another fifty years of refinement it could have a real impact on the human experience.
>>55
I hate musicians. I hate DJs. They are the center of attention in parties, that's why they're such assholes. I want them replaced with a computer feeling the mood of the audience and generating music accordingly. Thus the music and the lighting would be created by the movement of the dancers only. No more hierarchy, anybody could impulse a new rythm on the dance floor. That's the future of dyonisian mysteries rave parties. Fuck human DJs.

https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=tO3MC6f_uHk&feature=share this one is very good, but not really perfect enough to say it's my favorite... The one I like best is some old breakbeat science vinyl that I lost the title of in my memory long ago when my records were stolen.

>>77 you're not kidding about the first link. When jungle has that effortless flow, where it sounds like music and not something somebody sat down and banged out at a mac, it's really magical. it sets a stage.
>>77 also, i like breakcore/leftfield bass music. E-grind is fertile loam, but also just barely music at all, more like a statement that is incidentally almost-music-music turned music accidentally. And I love to hate that.

I like the beat!
it's been a long week, anon, but tonight I managed to get my rd6 sampled, and it sounds so much better than I thought it would, I am just pleased as punch and pie. There is a little bit of artifact, but man, it really makes it have character. It's not any 606, but my own little red rd6, and although the samples aren't going to do me a lot of good jammin' acid, they will fill a hole in my soul when it comes time to write a tune.
did you know flat beat was written with a 606? Just beautiful, and a good feeling to finish all this manual reading regarding these machines. Now I can get on with my reading list and just use them as reference for a while, which will be good for my brain I am hoping. Thank you, brothers, sisters, for consuming the sweetbreads of my text tonight.

TB-303 ?
Yes! With izotope trash 2 that I picked up for free, thank goodness, and also with a little sumpin' sumpin' for the phonemes.
well, it's the behringer clone. close. I need to send it somewhere, the connection has noise. I guess it gives it... character? The new devilfish mod looks fire, but I'm trying to wait on anything like that. Secondhad market is probably looking good for those in a year or two.
