Everybody knows that. Don't be a masochist and turn off the TV.

It's not just TV, it's the whole social media thing too. This includes all those supposedly less harmful alternatives like Youtube, 4chan, Reddit, Mastadon, Twitter and Hacker News are all poisoning your mind and there is absolutely nothing you can gain from it. Just delete all your accounts there and never look back, because if there is anything noteworthy happening, you will notice it inevitably, maybe 1 month, 2 months or half a year later, but you will still hear about it somewhere. In particular for Youtube and 4chan, some people try to find excuses, why they actually need it and so on, but in reality it only makes you anxious, depressed and braindead. If you are particularly news-addicted, you can still subscribe to some RSS-Feed about things, that interest you, but everything is better than that.

that is the primary purpose of church and now government, to poison peoples minds. medicine that detoxifies mind is illegal.

The incentives on social media are aligned towards short, repetitive, snackable content. If you want to write longform, why be on mastodon at all? Just publish a blog and syndicate with RSS.

There was a cool forum called sofiechan but I think the dude running it (palladium mag guy) tweaked the algo so that no one can post at all.

Goal of Fediverse is to own control of means of communication.
it's not about microblogging, or even blogging.
it's about connecting with friends.

in classic centralized model Facebook can deny you a right of having an account on their server or communicating with your friends.
in federated model - you run the server. your own one. you moderate it yourself.
in p2p model - serverless comms.

Let us consider the etymology of "blog" as it originates from "weblog" which is a log that is publicly posted onto the public web of Internet pages. Instead of individuals posting their blogs onto the big-tech blog services (the mainstream social media), individuals are able to host their own blog service and federate their Internet services on a voluntary basis. The goal of the Fediverse is to connect (federate) individual Internet services, services that are mostly personal blogs. So yes, it is about connecting with friends with the distinction of having no requirement to join the big-tech blog services.
