In How do we tell truths that might hurt?, Dijkstra lists the following as an uncomfortable truth:

Besides a mathematical inclination, an exceptionally good mastery of one's native tongue is the most vital asset of a competent programmer.

Does this still hold today? What if we replace ``native tongue'' with the English language?
