Did your teacher find out about your use of Maxima, and penalized you at the urging of the MathWorks lobbyists?

Maxima is ok, from a software perspective it's better than fucking sage.
Usually I just use a python REPL though.

Maxima ... better than sage.

Why? Is it because of bloat in Sage?

The price for the Macsyma 2.4 CD with license keys for the Windows version of Macsyma, Numkit and PDEase is $500. Macsyma works with Windows 95, 98, 2000 and XP.

I've use a few different things for calculators, like Emacs Calc-mode and just plain lisp, and the Python REPL. I really like Maxima though! Overall really nice to use

Yep. Maxima is pretty good.
