My reaction was ultimately “meh” to pfsense for home use. My skill sits somewhere between somewhere higher than a hobbiest and lower than someone who does a lot of networking professionally.
I found OPNSense way better for UI, and better able to handle upgrades on older machines that are getting out of recommended spec with pfsense.
I’ve also found openwrt to be fantastic with the right hardware.
