Those that come here, please make sure you keep this board alive.
This might be one of the only places where we can talk about Lisp and not have to wait 3 days for a reply.

We'll try, buddy.

Well, it needs a filter & spam prevention.
It's haunting nntpchan[1] & that shit centralized nanochan I saw 8ch attempt.
nntpchan only has optional captcha, which some robots solved, and SpamAssasin.
PoW seems dumb, and the problem really is defining "spam".

Spam prevention is almost never useful at the beginning, only when the board either finds notoriety or a specific individual with too much time to spare. A countermeasure should be developed for sure and as you mention this can be interesting ground for research (how to design a proper non-cancer anti-spam strategy). 8ch-like captchas seem to work really well though, and they're not cancer.
As you say, I don't think PoW can ever work for this. Either the work is insignificant and the spammer doesn't care, or the work is significant and users have to pay a significant price. It's also wasted effort for every legitimate post.
Usually textboards don't need a captcha and they're a pain for the user.
i like captchas and all, but how do I post using a script?

I've began some preliminary research, but works kills most of my time:

It's strange you are doubting the botnet's capacity for asymmetric warfare.
But AI may prove useful.

imageboards have to deal with CP, it's much harder to break any law with only text.
As for the AI, you could train an ANN to detect garbage posts given a sample of sufficient size but let's not confuse shitposting and real spam.

nntpchan, as the name implies, is a fileboard, agnostic [currently?] to filetypes: we have to be careful on what is truly Dost confirmed
an ANN might be expensive, and I was seeking something more programmable like described in the thread. If you browse the network, you can see weird posts with cites and some garbled text.
I've experienced rotary spam, esp. in chat/IM networks. We had one autist, self named Nintendo, that did just that: copied the entire 200 page and repost, over and over gain.
Thank good the shutdown deterred him.

I can't reproduce the error, shit, what was that?
error 400 occurs if you try to submit a post that would be empty once formatted, there's a bug there.

The dedicated idiotic spammer is actually much harder to defeat than a bot.
