Marvin Minsky - The Beauty of the Lisp Language

One poster thinks Minsky is an idiot. Another isn't sure what he's referring to. Maybe not as common sense as we'd like to believe.

I find that when veterans of a technical field assume others understand what they understand and refuse to discuss foundational topics, n00bs will simply pretend to understand. Eventually the n00bs will be the veterans except this time with a total lack of comprehension of foundational concepts. And shortly thereafter we'll all be logging into our vscode accounts to write yaml configs for the ms cloud executor environment.

Other languages have symbolic eval. So Misnky's assertion of Lisp's uniqueness still doesn't make sense.

What does symbolic eval offer over string eval? How would symbolic eval provide an open future while string eval would be a dead end?
