And it seems like there are plenty of implementations like Chibi, STklos, Gauche, Chez, Chicken that in the same size neighborhood and have their own extensions. But GNU, that's true, that probably does go some way to explaining it. (I have to disagree with the idea that it's pushed by the GNU though, the idea that GNU is the official extension language of the GNU project is meaningless next to the mountain of Python bindings that GNU projects actually have.)
