I was only using TRAMP for sudo support so I've added to my config (ignore-errors (unload-feature 'tramp 'force)) and cut down sudo-ext.el to suit my needs. This is not a perfect solution as sudo-ext.el relies on sudoedit which is not available on all platforms, and is rather unworkable for remote files. https://paste.textboard.org/1caabf9a
