How to use X/Twitter

1 2023-09-06 20:09

1. find a Nitter instance that supports RSS like https://nitter.poast.org
2. subscribe to https://nitter.poast.org/elonmusk/rss
3. repeat for every account you wish to follow

There. You've got a strictly chronological feed of the tweets of the people you wanted to follow, without ads or tailored recommendations. The best part is that you didn't even have to create a Twitter account. You can also easily configure your RSS reader to show you the discussion under each tweet.

There's only one slight little problem. Having escaped the recommendation algorithm, I have no idea what to follow.

>>1 That's actually useful information, thanks!

Why bother with this when there's nothing worth reading on that site?

I don't know, you can't read anything from Twitter if you don't have an account and if you're not logged in. And even if you agree to the ToS, sign in and log on, you won't get a chronological feed with only the content you subscribed to. So, it's just about the pleasure of stealing some shit. Not exactly "stealing" more like "opening up" or "glancing at something that's barely hidden for no good reason".
And I was asking you: what's worth reading there? Infosec accounts? Shitstorm alerts? There are millions of feeds, there must be a few interesting ones. I subscribed to a couple of newspapers and journos, there are no ads or random content, it's ok when you use it like that.

There's a lot of cool accounts that I follow via nitter. Anyone had success running a node locally in docker? I get token errors and the UI shows "Instance is being rate limited".

That X-birdsite is now full of bird droppings. Although Mr. Elon Musk may profit handsomely from guano mining in the future, regular users are best advised to avoid the stench and move to a FOSS solution such as Mastodon.

X/Twitter

Is there a self-hosted version that doesn't send all my data to the USA?

Ironically, the so-called Fediverse is all about self-hosting without sending all your data to the USA.

At least one nitter instance still works

Not for long. Any operating instance of Nitter will eventually fail because of the method they get data from X/Twitter. At this point, the only method of getting data from X is to scrape the data from the website one page at a time.

How to use X/Twitter

1. Delete your X/Twitter account.
2. Sign up for a Mastodon account.

3. Delete Mastodon
Congratulations, you've now used Xwitter and Mastodon correctly.

I really do not like mastodon, I feel very uncomfortable whenever I dig through someone's profile. The only people on it are transgenders blogposting about their favorite rust crates, or someone with a handle like @gtkrwn88 spending all day every day getting all worked up about inconsequential nonsense.
From what I've seen, there are no interesting people or interesting discussions to be had on the fediverse. IMO Social media is finally dying (thankfully).

I follow the Guix and Spritey peoples on the Fedi.

There's some people who draw porn well.

22 2024-03-10 15:49

Got any examples of those drawing people?
