Is Esperanto free and open source? I think not.
I don't think languages can be copyrighted, but the founding text of Esperanto was published in 1887, and is in the public domain now.

Words can be trademarked. What happens if Apple or Microsoft means something gross in your language? Could you be sued for using the word inappropriately even though it has existed for centuries in your language?
