The last time I had to write something more than a couple paragraphs long was in school over a decade ago. Now whenever I re-read anything I've written it sounds like a bunch of incoherent sentences jumbled together. And it just gets worse the more I write.
Keep at it.
You can analyze it all you want, but I doubt that's the solution.
People love to structure their topic sentences, heading each paragraph's purpose, keeping it tight at five sentences or less - sure, all of these practices will get you there.
You could study newspapers and popular authors and maybe you'll don the mask necessary to execute your neuromancy effectively.
But that kills the joy of it.
The whole point you harness a language is to tap with your pickaxe on the dark walls.
Words become sparks - sentences as portals; paragraphs, worlds.
What worlds do you want to go to? That's all you need to worry about.
