What do you think?
i couldn't see this sort of thing not eventually causing problems. microsoft-specific hardware for microsoft-approved software, no linux, no warez, nothing unauthorized and permitted by the man.
i think it depends on the times as much as anything; what is profitable that we can reasonably get away with?

So you think it will soon they will replace the login screen with a "insert coin to continue" message?
The FSF should keep up with the times and develop its own technologies to counter the Microsoft threat. The FSF should aim to become the sole owner of all computers in existence to prevent Microsoft from doing so first. At the login screen, users will be prompted to donate FreeCoin cryptocurrency to the FSF before the user is allowed to login. The greater the amount donated, the greater the CPU time allocated to the user. The proceeds from the sale of CPU time will be used to battle Microsoft. The FSF will only declare victory when all computers in existence are under the FSF's control, upon which the FSF will steeply increase the price of using computers, purportedly for "preserving freedom". Everybody will be happy with the newfound freedom (and high computing costs) benevolently granted by the FSF, especially the developing countries that will be free of computers.

The collectivization of computing resources is an excellent idea! All personal computers will be confiscated and repurposed as "community computers". All community computers will be coin-operated. Computers will be maintained by professionals. There will be a significant decline in computer crime, as all computers will be strictly monitored by law enforcement authorities. This is all for the users' safety and convenience.
I just want a machine that can trick me into watching advertisements in exchange for a lever I press to get more exclusive premium advertisements while monitoring my every thought.
