Racism

For me, the concept of racial division within humanity is not wrong by itself. What's wrong is to give a symbol more importance than is warranted; a symbol is a shortcut idea to represent a set of characteristics. Humanity is filled injustices and atrocities when people divide people with symbols; the symbol of division is used as a basis for instant and inherent discrimination.

I can avoid this problem with an analysis about what are the symbols of division, and then thinking about the warrant to distinguish the divisions, i.e., I consider the power of the symbols involved to influence my emotion and strategic direction. By dismissing the power of the symbol, I can choose to focus my emotional and physical energy into clear thought to fight the other important symbols that affect my life. With this analytical tool of considering symbols, I apply it to racism: the symbol of dividing people into races and then ranking the races into a dominance hierarchy. For my own consideration, I choose to dismiss the symbol that the races have an important meaning for my own way of life. This analysis allows me to clearly identify the values that each person chooses, and then I can consider how their (symbolic) values are going to affect my own freedom; freedom here being the symbol of living my life my way without unduly interfering with other people's freedom.

So my message here is: you can choose the power that a symbol will control your own life: you can also consider other people and the symbols they choose for their own life.
