Security Thread

post here about physical/tech security.

has anyone looked at split linux?

2 2021-09-11 03:43

All I get when I google that is the split(1) command.
I'm guessing this is a distro or bootload that lets you have multiple LUKS partitions? I've been thinking about doing that with my pinephone because I know crossing some borders requires unlocking it so it would be great to have multiple fake rootfs.
Better would probably to do everything from the initrd though.

Interesting, so it is what I expected. You're probably best off setting this up with whatever distro you use currently provided you understand how its init process works.

Car got broken into; jimmied the lock and stole my car GPS. I'm mad.

6 2021-11-05 03:24

put a gps on your gps. can you track it by its identifier, maybe?

I am to lazy to look but i guess they "split" everything into some kind of VM? Lxc, qemu, docker or whatever?

8 2021-11-05 14:55

>>7
It's a partitioning scheme where you have multiple encrypted OSes that you can choose to boot into. I've been meaning to set this up on my phone for border crossings.

I see. That might actually be quite useful. I'd still generally avoid having a lot of sensible data on a phone but there is obviously some you can't avoid without invalidating the point of carrying it at all. At least unless you are incredible good at remembering numbers.

Has anybody here used Raspberry Pi's as security cameras?
Is it better to just use a commercial available cameras?

11 2021-11-08 03:20

>>10
The pros of uniting a single board computer to a camera is in the flexibility to upgrade the individual modules as you wish. It is more convenient to use commercially available cameras.

I keep my crypto wallet on my phone. I'm not putting it on the machine I use for web browsing.

13 2021-11-08 18:48

more private comms via phone, signal, telegram, wickr, etc? are there good options for full encryption of android?

14 2021-11-08 19:54

>>13
Only free software respects your freedom to privacy in communications. Signal is free software so I can support it on that basis alone. There are plenty of other free software titles that support your privacy.

15 2021-11-08 22:35

>>14
Does signal work without a phone number?

16 2021-11-09 01:31

>>15 no.

17 2021-11-09 01:41

>>16
I see. So much for "respects my freedom to privacy" then i guess.

18 2021-11-09 09:41

haha Nothing with an official app respects your freedom. Software that respects your freedom isn't even allowed on smartphones.

100% agree. My sentence wasn't really meant to show surprise. The phone number requirement most (all?) big messanger services have has been holding me off from using any of them for a long time now. Communication technology is a sad topic for people that are even the least bit privacy aware.

The phone number requirement most (all?) big messanger services

lol no.
Just the shitty ones run by jews.
IRC doesn't need it.
XMPP doesn't need it.
Email does need it if you know who's dick to suck.
Signal is run by Jews.
Matrix is run by Jews.
Everything else is run by Jews or their agents.

Never heard of it. Nice.

Security can only be found in the presence of the living God.

Had y'all'd've tried Haskell y'all'd have the best antivirus in the history of softwares.

25 2022-05-22 01:01

Hell yeah, y'all'd've.

Had y'all'd've had tried Haskell, then y'alld've have had the bestest antiviral historical hardware breeches on the bizzneaches.

Personally, I only use secure programming languages like Java.

I smoked DMT and wound up in a place the highest philosophers could only dream of.

And where is that?

Heck yeah

35 2022-05-25 02:22

what he said^

36 2022-06-14 05:54

with fair to middlin regular internet user knowledge, is it worth the trouble installing qubes vs just creating semi disposable vms for isolation? Would docker be better? I hear qubes is pretty hard, but working with it seems a little better of a choice vs my current ramshackle sandbox mess.

Use cash and your credit card details will never be stolen...

38 2022-07-25 07:30

credit card details

people with credit cards should watch their accounts often anyway and not care if the details are solen because they are able to deactivate their card anytime
