You could always serve in a non-combatant role. Arguably having proper logistics and tactics is more important than proper soldiers.

I was in JROTC in high-school, and I thought about it for a while. My thinking was that it'd be pretty sweet to get free healthcare for life, and a free college education. Even in most non-combatant roles your life is in danger though, and it's not necessarily going to be an honorable death. Further, you've got to tolerate the whole indoctrination thing.
in my opinion, anything above 8yo is fair game
Considering this when I was younger, my issue was the public showers and communal living space. I need my own area for privacy.
